Markus Patsch first arrived in this country as the preferred chef of the late great pianist and funny man Victor Borge, and he quickly established himself as a sought after chef of tasty and interesting cuisine.
Markus created a very successful lunch restaurant in Darien in the early 80’s. In fact, the place, named “The Gourmet Table” became so popular that it attracted the attention of New York Times’s food critic Patricia Brooks. You can read her “The Gourmet Table” restaurant reviews here, August 17th, ’86 & December 28th, ’86.
Time brought Markus Patsch to Cheshire in the mid 90’s, where he opened The Watch Factory Restaurant. Again, his reputation quickly spread and brought food critics to sample his food. This time, it was Todd Lyon from the New Haven Register, Middletown Press, The Herald, The Bristol Press & The Register Citizen. You can read her April 30th, ’04 review here.
And New York Times came back to sample Chef Markus’ cuisine in 2011. Read the review by Stephanie Lyness here 😀 In fact the year of 2011 seems to have been the year where out of towner’s food critics found their way to Cheshire and The Watch Factory Restaurant. Chef Markus was also visited by Elisa Maclay from Connecticut Magazine. Her March Review can be read here.
Markus is not one for excessive self-promotion, but his cooking is now renowned among his regulars. The Watch Factory Restaurant is more that just a place to dine out, it is a dining community due to Markus’ unique and inviting ways and the spectacular food just makes his restaurant a place to seek out – often!
